Concrete Patios
Create the perfect outdoor living space with a custom concrete patio designed for your lifestyle.
Transform Your Backyard Into a Gathering Space
Your backyard should be a place where you want to spend time. Whether you are hosting weekend barbecues, watching your kids play, or just relaxing with a cup of coffee, a well-designed patio makes it all better. A concrete patio gives you a clean, level surface that is easy to maintain and built to last through every season.
In the Pacific Northwest, we deal with a lot of rain and temperature changes. Concrete handles these conditions better than wood decks that rot and warp, or pavers that shift and sink over time. A properly installed concrete patio stays level, drains water away from your home, and does not require constant repairs or refinishing. You get more time to enjoy your outdoor space and less time maintaining it.
We have built patios of all shapes and sizes across Issaquah and the surrounding areas. From simple rectangular slabs perfect for outdoor furniture to elaborate curved designs with multiple levels, we work with you to create a patio that fits your space and budget. When you choose our concrete patio services, you are investing in outdoor space that adds value to your home and makes your life better.
Planning Your Patio Layout and Size
The first step in any patio project is figuring out the right size and location. You want enough space for your outdoor furniture, grill, and room to move around comfortably. A good rule of thumb is to plan for at least 16 to 20 square feet per person if you entertain regularly. For a family of four, that means a patio around 300 to 400 square feet gives you plenty of room.
Location matters just as much as size. We look at sun exposure, shade patterns, views, and how the patio connects to your house. Most patios are built right off the back door for easy access, but we can also create detached patios in other areas of your yard. If you have a sloped lot, we can work with the grade or build a raised patio with retaining walls to create a level space.
Drainage is critical in our climate. We grade the patio so water flows away from your house and does not pool on the surface. Proper drainage prevents water damage to your foundation and keeps your patio usable even after heavy rain. We also consider where the water will go once it leaves the patio, directing it to appropriate drainage areas or rain gardens.
How We Build Your Concrete Patio
Building a patio starts with site preparation. We mark out the exact dimensions, excavate the area, and remove any grass, roots, or debris. The soil underneath needs to be stable and properly compacted. If the ground is too soft or uneven, we add a gravel base and compact it in layers until we have a solid foundation.
Next we build the forms that will shape your patio. These wooden or metal frames define the edges and hold the concrete in place while it cures. If you want curves or custom shapes, we bend the forms to match your design. We also install reinforcement like steel rebar or wire mesh to prevent cracking and add structural strength.
When the concrete arrives, we pour it into the forms and work quickly to spread it evenly. The concrete needs to be the right consistency and thickness, typically 4 inches for patios. We use specialized tools to level and smooth the surface, then apply the finish you have chosen. Here are the most popular options:
- Broom Finish: A textured surface that provides good traction when wet. Simple, affordable, and timeless.
- Stamped Patterns: We can make your patio look like natural stone, slate, or tile by stamping patterns into the wet concrete. Learn more about stamped and decorative concrete options.
- Exposed Aggregate: We reveal the decorative stones in the concrete mix for a natural, textured look with great traction.
- Colored or Stained: Add color throughout the concrete or apply stains after curing for unique color effects.
After finishing, the concrete needs time to cure properly. We protect it from direct sun, wind, and rain while it gains strength. Within a few days you can walk on it, but we recommend waiting at least a week before placing heavy furniture or grills on the surface.
If you are also planning a new driveway or walkway, we can coordinate the projects so everything matches and flows together seamlessly.
